Cajamar Caja Rural, Sociedad Cooperativa de Crédito is the result of a merger in the year 2000 between Caja Rural de Almería and Caja Rural de Málaga, two banking entities that began operating in 1966 and which had previously integrated the Campo de Cartagena agricultural cooperative and rural savings bank in Murcia (1989) and the Grumeco credit cooperative in Madrid (2000).

Caja Rural del Duero, which dates back to 1913 merged in 2007, followed by the merger with Caixa Rural de Balears, set up in 1972, in 2010; Caja Campo of Valencia, set up in 1964, in 2011, Caja Rural de Castellón, which dates back to 1903, in 2012 and Ruralcaja, whose activity as a credit cooperative dates back to 1946 (Caja Rural de Valencia), 1951 (Caja Rural de Alicante) and 1923 (Credicoop in Valencia). Caja rural de Canarias, founded in 1978; Credit Valencia, set up in 2001 and Caja rural de Casinos, which starts its activity in 1970; in 2013.

When did Cajamar embark on its process of expansion?

Before the year 2000, Caja Rural de Almería had expanded its activity to the Region of Murcia (1989) and to Barcelona (1990), and Caja Rural de Málaga had a few branches in the province of Cádiz (1990), Madrid (1992), Melilla (1996) and Ceuta (1998). From the year 2000 onwards, Cajamar Caja Rural embarked on its process of national expansion: Valencia and Castilla-Leon (2003), Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha (2006), Balearic Islands (2007), Cantabria (2008), Asturias (2009), Navarra and La Rioja (2010), Galicia (2011), Canary Islands ( 2013), Extremadura (2016) and Basque country (2020).

Caja Rural del Duero had previously expanded its sphere of activity from Valladolid to the provinces of Ávila and Palencia (1988) and León (1995). In 1979, Caja Campo extended its geographical scope to the province of Albacete and in 1982 to Cuenca. On the other hand, Ruralcaja had extended its activity to Tarragona in 1995, Barcelona in 1996 and Murcia in 2005.
